Green Holidays
At Plan-it Earth we strive to minimise our impact on the environment and we will ensure that your stay here for your yurt-holiday or Family Eco Activity Holiday will be as carbon neutral and environmentally sensitive as possible.
Current green measures
Our current green measures include:
- Using green tariff electricity
- Using reclaimed and recycled materials wherever possible
- Having a green transport policy, which includes encouraging use of public transport and bicycles, and running our own vehicles on local bio-diesel made from recycled catering oil
- Having a waste reduction policy, which includes composting, worm bins, recycling and compost toilets
- Using woodburning showers to reduce fossil fuel usage
- Using homegrown and local food where possible, and where not local, buying in bulk to reduce packaging, and aiming to use Fairtrade and Organic sources
- Using green building techniques, including using reclaimed or renewable materials, and local materials, suppliers and tradespeople
- Planting trees to attract wildlife and absorb Carbon Dioxide
We also try and meet as many of our needs as possible through the use of on-site resources and good design. This includes:
- Providing water from our well
- Using solar hot water
- Using our own firewood for heating
- Providing food and craft materials from the smallholding where possible
- Reducing the need for watering in the garden by the use of mulches
Incentives to be Green
If you arrive for your Family Eco Activity Holiday or Yurt Holiday by foot, bicycle, electric vehicle or public transport (not including plane!!), we will give you a discount on the cost of your stay. By providing all you need for a family holiday apart from clothes, bedlinen and towels, we hope to make it really easy for you to avoid bringing the car.
To make it even easier, as well as the local bus timetable, we aim to be able to provide bikes for our visitors, a viable option with numerous beaches within a 5 mile radius.
